Breast Cancer Awareness: PINKOUT

Hey bombshells! So, October is Breast Cancer Awareness #bca month. For the past couple of years I have done a pinkout, meaning I wear some shade of pink every day for the month of October. Of course I have gotten some flack about it because people do not understand how just wearing the color pink does anything for the cause. I let it be known that once people notice or recognize that I have worn pink for several consecutive days it is an icebreaker and they ask me why. I then explain what a pinkout is and take the opportunity to share breast cancer awareness facts. Additionally, I have participated in the making strides breast cancer walk over the last 3 years as well in efforts to continue to raise awareness for the cause! I plan to do the same through this blog as well as on my Facebook consulting page.

Of course, I love style and fashion and things to be aesthetically pleasing. However, if you know me you also know that I am fiercely cognizant of social responsibility. Therefore, I intend to share breast cancer awareness facts, as well as tips for pulling off various shades of pink. I genuinely hope you will take this pinkout journey with me this month!

Breast Cancer Awareness Fact: Race and Ethnicity

Were you aware that overall Caucasian women are slightly more likely to develop breast cancer than are African-American women? Even so African-American women are more likely to die of breast cancer. Also, under the age of 45, breast cancer is more common in African-American women. Native American, Hispanic and Asian women have a lower risk of developing and dying from breast cancer. (Cancer.org). Ladies, ladies, ladies it is imperative that you perform your breast checks. I am not a doctor and I do not want to inadvertently provide incorrect information. With that being said, please consult with your primary care physician regarding the proper way to conduct a self-check.

Pinkout: Hot Pink

• Monochromatic...Go for a long and lean look by wearing all of one shade. Keep the silhouette classic and accessories simple maybe gold or pearls and opt for a neutral shoe.

• Pair it with turquoise... This is a fun and unexpected pairing. Don't go too matchy-matchy. Opt for one piece in the contrasting color in example if you are wearing a pink dress pull out turquoise shoes.

• Wear it with leopard print... Pink looks amazing with leopard print. Again, the key to pulling off this look without looking Barbie-Chic, is a minimalist approach go for one piece in leopard print.

• Wild card: Rock it with red! This look is not for the faint of heart. It can go really well or really poorly depending on how it's executed. To pull this look off you want to stick to classic silhouettes and clean lines and neutral classic accessories.
